Dataminr: Real-Time Information-Discovery
How Dataminr’s AI platform first detected the outbreak of COVID-19 in public social media posts.
VENTURE VERSUS THE VIRUS
In times like this, we all need to hear — and share — constructive news about work being done to tackle problems caused by COVID-19. Here’s what some AVG portfolio companies are contributing.
Today’s Portfolio Company: Dataminr
Dataminr’s AI platform detects signals from public data sets, giving clients early insights into high-impact events and critical breaking information in real time — long before it’s in the news. The company was the first to detect the outbreak of COVID-19 in public social media posts on December 30, 2019. They were able to send clients a warning seven full days ahead of the U.S. government’s initial announcement. Read more about how Dataminr helped spot the early onset of the global pandemic.
What Dataminr Focuses On
Dataminr concentrates its efforts on three main areas of focus:
- Corporate Risk: Global enterprises rely on Dataminr to deliver relevant alerts in real time to mitigate risks and manage crises (See report).
- News: Journalists gain an extra edge in reporting stories that are most relevant to their audiences — before they go viral.
- Public Sector: Dataminr’s First Alert product notifies responders of emergencies and breaking events, enabling the fastest real-time response (read case study).
